Tips for apartment hunting
Whether you are experienced or not, finding the right apartment in Vancouver is difficult. Obviously price weighs heavily on anyone looking for apartments but there are other factors you should consider.
Location is obviously your first priority. Walking to work in Vancouver could save you a lot of trouble, time and hassle. Ever heard of rush hour? It may be worth paying more for a better location. Afterall, the saying "time is money" has real merit.
Noise is another aspect of finding apartments. The west end of Vancouver BC is not quiet. Perhaps if you are in the middle of Vancouver's west end you will be away from most noise, but remember you are probably near a firehall. I can tell you Vancouver downtown is nice, but if you come from suburbs, expect renters remorse for the first month. You need time to adjust. You will adjust in your new apartment, but expect late nights.
Vancouver BC is beautiful. Highrise or apartments with views come at a big price! Beyond your view, you should always view an apartment during the day so you can see how much natural light you will get. In addition, do you want to deal with the sunsets in the summer and closing your blinds?
I've lived in a lot of different places in Vancouver. Everyone has been an apartment. If you plan on a Vancouver house rental, consider your lifestyle and the other tenants in the house. In terms of apartments, obviously you won't know for sure what your neighbours are going to be like. I would look at the apartment and whether it is concrete or wood. Nothing is worse than having to adjust your natural lifestyle because the walls and floors are thin. You work graveyards or nights? If so, think about the hassles you may have when you want to watch late night tv.
Take notes! If you are looking at a lot of Vancouver apartments, you may forget details. Write down the details of each apartment!
Vancouver and the lower mainland is vast. Consider all your options. Transit and skytrain access should be considerations in Vancouver apartments hunting. It's hard to be choosy in a tough apartments rental market like Vancouver, but don't rush. Take your time and don't panic. You want to make the right choice the first time!
Good luck in finding apartments for rent Vancouver!
