Vancouver Apartments For Rent Listings

Online free ads are the best option for finding apartments for rent in Vancouver BC. Those apartment listings are updated throughout the day and if it's a highly desirable location or price, then you want to be checking the listings throughout the day.

The days of going through the newspaper to find Vancouver apartments is old school, but don't disregard it all together. If you live in communities within Vancouver such as North Vancouver for example, they have a local newspaper which does have apartment listings. The thing to consider is that some landlords or apartment or house owners may not be as eager to list online. What this means is that it's possible to find real gems of apartments in a newspaper which only a small percentage of apartment hunters are using. Make sense? Fewer people are using the newspaper listing and are relying only on online ads. Sure some of these smaller local Vancouver community newspapers have their ads also online, but most don't. Hit up newspapers from the various communities or subburbs of Vancouver. A few of the better newspaper apartment listings include:

  • North Shore News (find apartments in North Vancouver area)
  • Richmond News
  • Surrey The Now (find apartments in Surrey, North Delta and White Rock)
  • Burnaby Now

For finding apartments to rent in Vancouver, I will list here the best options here on one page. As various apartment listings are added, we will update our list.

The 2 best resources for finding Vancouver apartments for rent are Craig's List and Kijiji. The free Vancouver apartment listings are the most commonly used so you will find the best choices and selection there. If you have a smartphone you can use both of those websites with ease and search specific areas of Vancouver. As I mentioned earlier, you will want to check many times during the day. Vancouver is a popular place to live and apartments are expensive. Good deals go fast. If you want to get the best apartment you need to be a bit more dedicated and persistent. Do you really want to move into a place that is less than ideal because you ran out of time and missed out on a much better apartment?

Tips for apartment hunting

Have you considered the fact that some landlords are advertising their vacancies only with a sign at the front of the apartment building? Some do! I would recommend doing some old fashioned apartment hunting especially in the dense areas like Vancouver's West End or Kitsilano areas around Granville street and Hemlock street or near Kits Beach. The high demand for aparments for rent and the ease of filling those vacancies leave a lot of landlords simply doing it the easy way. Put the sign at the front of the building and in no time they will find a renter. That could be you! If you have a car, travel with a friend so you can take notes. I say this because parking in the dense apartement areas is 99% of the time permit parking only. If you can't park and get out to knock on a door, making a note of the building name and location is the next best thing. In fact you can use your mobile devices and get a phone number and call as you are driving around. Pick the key times of the month when landlords are getting notices of tenants moving out. Get out there on foot and pick the idea neighborhood to live in.

Whether you are experienced or not, finding the right apartment in Vancouver is difficult. Obviously price weighs heavily on anyone looking for apartments but there are other factors you should consider.

Location is obviously your first priority. Walking to work in Vancouver could save you a lot of trouble, time and hassle. Ever heard of rush hour? It may be worth paying more for a better location. Afterall, the saying "time is money" has real merit.

Noise is another aspect of finding apartments. The west end of Vancouver BC is not quiet. Perhaps if you are in the middle of Vancouver's west end you will be away from most noise, but remember you are probably near a firehall. I can tell you Vancouver downtown is nice, but if you come from suburbs, expect renters remorse for the first month. You need time to adjust. You will adjust in your new apartment, but expect late nights.

Vancouver BC is beautiful. Highrise or apartments with views come at a big price! Beyond your view, you should always view an apartment during the day so you can see how much natural light you will get. In addition, do you want to deal with the sunsets in the summer and closing your blinds?

I've lived in a lot of different places in Vancouver. Everyone has been an apartment. If you plan on a Vancouver house rental, consider your lifestyle and the other tenants in the house. In terms of apartments, obviously you won't know for sure what your neighbours are going to be like. I would look at the apartment and whether it is concrete or wood. Nothing is worse than having to adjust your natural lifestyle because the walls and floors are thin. You work graveyards or nights? If so, think about the hassles you may have when you want to watch late night tv.

Take notes! If you are looking at a lot of Vancouver apartments, you may forget details. Write down the details of each apartment!

Vancouver and the lower mainland is vast. Consider all your options. Transit and skytrain access should be considerations in Vancouver apartments hunting. It's hard to be choosy in a tough apartments rental market like Vancouver, but don't rush. Take your time and don't panic. You want to make the right choice the first time!

Good luck in finding apartments for rent Vancouver!
